Allan Betz

General Engineering Contractor (CSLB #1098361) · PG&E Certified · DIR Registered · Founder & Vice President, Betz Works

Allan Betz is the licensed contractor behind Betz Works, the full-service paving, grading, and underground utility contractor he founded in Capitola, California, in 2023.

He has been in the paving business since he was 14 years old and is the third generation of a family whose paving roots on California’s Central Coast go back to 1958, when Betz Paving was first founded.

Before starting Betz Works, Allan built his experience across Betz Paving, Betz Construction, and Earthworks Paving, where he served as Vice President.

Unlike larger contractors who hand projects off to a rotating crew, Allan is on-site for every job. He personally performs the site evaluation, sets the scope, and prices the work, so the person estimating your project is the same one accountable for how it holds up years later.

Whether it’s a driveway, a utility trench, a building pad, or storm and erosion repair, the work has to hold up for years under real weather, traffic, and ground conditions — and Allan believes that kind of work deserves the direct attention of the licensed contractor whose name is on the company.

Credentials

Allan holds and maintains the licensing and certifications required to perform general engineering, paving, and utility work in California:

  • General Engineering Contractor — California Contractors State License Board, License #1098361
  • PG&E Certified Contractor — qualified for utility-related work
  • Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) Registered Contractor — qualified for public-works and prevailing-wage projects

How Allan works with clients

Every Betz Works project follows the same process, and Allan handles each stage personally rather than delegating it:

  1. Site evaluation — Allan assesses soil stability, slope, access, drainage, and any permitting needs in person.
  2. Scope and estimate — the client receives a detailed breakdown of scope, timeline, and pricing based on the site’s specific conditions.
  3. On-site execution — Allan is present for the work itself, applying materials and methods chosen for Central Coast fog, rain, and salt exposure.
  4. Follow-through — the same contractor who quoted the job stands behind the finished result.
