Our Process

betz works asphalt resurfacing process

1. On-Site Inspection & Quote

We assess the surface condition of your driveway, check for drainage issues, and confirm whether resurfacing is indeed the right solution for your driveway.

Afterwards, we provide you with a clear, honest quote with no hidden costs. We walk you through your options and help you choose what makes the most sense for your property and budget.

Once you approve the estimate, we lock in your project date.

2. Surface Preparation

We begin the asphalt resurfacing process by pressure washing the entire driveway to remove dirt, debris, and contaminants.

We then fill any cracks wider than a quarter inch and repair potholes using cold patch asphalt, compacted level with the surrounding surface so the new layer bonds evenly across the whole driveway.

3. Asphalt Application and Compaction

We apply a bonding agent across the entire surface, then pour and spread hot-mix asphalt at 1.5 to 2 inches thick, graded for proper drainage.

We run commercial-grade rollers across the surface to remove air pockets and create a smooth, even finish.

Finally, we place barricades and recommend keeping vehicles off the surface for 24 to 48 hours to let the new asphalt cure.

4. Final Check-in

We walk the finished driveway with you, check the edges, compaction, and drainage slope, and make sure the surface is smooth and even.

If anything fails to meet your expectations, we will address this before we leave.

FAQs

What does asphalt driveway resurfacing refer to?

Resurfacing means we apply a fresh layer of asphalt over your existing driveway. As long as the base and foundational layers are still in good shape, this approach gives you a smooth, clean surface at a fraction of the cost of tearing everything out and starting over.

Most homeowners see results that last 10 to 20 years with proper maintenance.

Do I need resurfacing or a full driveway replacement?

If the damage is surface-level, such as minor cracks, fading, light wear, or small depressions, resurfacing is likely all you need.

If you have severe potholes, widespread cracking, or drainage issues, the problem is likely in the base underneath. Resurfacing over it won’t fix the problem. You need a full replacement.

If you’re not sure which one is right for your driveway, contact us, and we’ll tell you which one is the best choice.

Why should I resurface my driveway?

Resurfacing costs significantly less than a full replacement and gives your driveway 10 to 20 more years of life.

It removes cracks and surface hazards, improves your driveway’s appearance, and keeps the existing base protected.

How long does the process take?

Most residential resurfacing jobs finish in one day. That includes surface cleaning, crack repair, tack coat, and the new asphalt layer.

After that, you need to keep vehicles off it for 24 to 48 hours while it cures.

How much does it cost?

Cost depends on the size of your driveway, its current condition, and how much repair work it needs before we lay the new surface.

Resurfacing is significantly more affordable than full replacement because the existing base stays in place. Call us at 831-400-8466 or request a free estimate.

Can I resurface my driveway myself?

Some homeowners tackle small patching jobs on their own, but full resurfacing requires professional equipment, including asphalt spreaders, commercial rollers, and tack coat sprayers.

Without the right tools, it is hard to get an even bond and proper compaction. A professionally resurfaced driveway simply lasts longer.

What is the best weather for resurfacing?

We schedule resurfacing on warm, dry days with temperatures above 50 degrees Fahrenheit and no rain in the forecast for at least 48 hours.

These conditions let the asphalt cure properly and produce a stronger, more durable result.

When should I sealcoat after resurfacing?

Wait 6 to 12 months before sealcoating your asphalt.

Fresh asphalt needs time to fully cure and release its oils before it becomes rigid enough to hold a sealcoat properly.

Do you handle drainage problems during resurfacing?

Yes. We assess slope and water runoff during the on-site inspection, and we grade the new surface to direct water away from your home and foundation.

If we find a deeper structural problem causing your drainage issues, we’ll recommend the right solution.
